Amazing show of the Islanders Foreign Legion!

The first fully organized roadtrip of the Islanders Foreign Legion was a complete success! Islanders fans from Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina made the trip to home of the RailHawks in Cary, NC –to see the Puerto Rico Islanders play on the road.
The group organized a ‘tailgate’ party to eat, drink, and get to know other fans that had traveled for the game. A group of around 15 fans from the greater Washington DC area made the 5 hour trip down to North Carolina, where we would meet up with fans from around the state.
As game time approached, the Legion Extranjera took control of their pre-arranged section in the Cary stadium while other Puerto Rico fans slowly joined them. What began as a group of around 30 people ended up being close to 70 Islanders fans!
La Legion really brought the Bayamon atmosphere to North Carolina with drums, cowbells, and even ‘pleneras’. We sang soccer songs as well as ‘bomba’. When the 2 goals came we threw white and orange streamers as well as confetti into the field and up into the air. It was truly an incredible atmosphere, so much so – that the RailHawks supporters were pretty much quieted for the entirety of the match.
After the game was over, the players walked towards us and shook hands with the Foreign Legion supporters.
As they headed to their locker rooms, several of the Foreign Legion supporters went outside to wait for the team where the players later would take pictures with us and thank us for the great support during the match.

It was a great trip and a fantastic match for all Puerto Rico fans. This was only a small example of what can be accomplished in future Foreign Legion trips and meetups.
